Yum-O!

Monday, January 28, 2008

Well, we finally took the plunge and fed Rebecca rice cereal. I think she likes it. It has only been three days, but so far so good. Here is Rebecca's first feeding in pictures.

Where's the grub?

Is that what you are going to feed me?

Open wide!

I'll do it!

Mmmm...so good!

Winter Wonderland

Saturday, January 19, 2008

It finally feels and looks like winter in Atlanta! It has been snowing all day! Too bad Rebecca is not old enough to go and play in the snow because this probably will not happen for another decade or so. We did bundle her up and take her outside for a photo op.

Rebecca's new sleep position.

She has been sleeping a lot better. We still have our rough nights, but they are coming farther and farther apart. I could not be happier about that!

Where are the directions?

Tuesday, January 15, 2008

Don't you hate when you get something new and you can't figure out the directions on how to work it? That is how I feel with Rebecca these days. I want directions! I want a book that says "When baby does this, you do this. When baby is this old, you do this." Of course there is no such book. One book says one thing, and another says something else. One person says, "I did this." The next person says, "No, I did this." It is enough to drive me bananas.

Now, I know that all babies are different, and therefore there are no straight answers. My mom told me to trust my instincts, but as a new mom, that can be hard. What if my instincts are wrong? I feel like every decision I make for Rebecca is going to impact the rest of her life. (Dramatic? I know.) I guess that I just have to pray that I am doing the right thing.

Rebecca has been waking up a lot in the middle of the night. The quick and easiest answer would be that she is hungry. But what if she is just in the middle of a sleep cycle? Do I feed her or let her cry herself back to sleep? Is it time to start feeding her baby solids? I always hated making decisions.

We had Rebecca's 4 month check-up last week. She is 15 lbs and 25 1/2 inches long. Dr. Knox said she looked great and that we could start baby food at any time. It just feels like she is growing up too fast, and once we start baby food, she will not be a baby any longer. However, she is starting to show signs that she is ready for real food, so we will start sooner rather than later.

We set up her high chair yesterday, and she loves sitting in it. Doesn't she look so small.

I know that this blog entry has been one big vent session. I know that I don't really have any major problems; Rebecca is a great, healthy baby. I have so much to be thankful for, especially my sweet girl. It is just that being a mom is hard, and I guess you never realize it until you are one. BUT IT IS THE BEST JOB EVER (even with out directions)!

HOT BOUDIN!

Tuesday, January 8, 2008

LSU played in the BCS Championship Game last night against Ohio State. For those of you who did not watch it, LSU got off to a very rocky start. They looked like a little league team playing against the NFL. It was very scary, and Rebecca and I take full responsibility for it.

Yesterday, it was hot in Atlanta, so I dressed Rebecca in a cute (of course it was cute) outfit that was short sleeves. The outfit was a dark pink, almost red. I was not thinking about football at the time, I was just thinking how precious my baby girl looked!

Fast forward to last night. As we began to watch pregame, I realized that Ohio State's colors are red and silver or red and white or whatever. There is red in there. It occurred to me that Rebecca was wearing the wrong colors. (She would have had on her LSU outfit, but she outgrew it months ago.) No being superstitious, I said "It doesn't matter what you have on. We are still going to be cheering for the Tigers." Well then the game started, and like I stated before, LSU looked more like kittens than tigers. I got fed up, so I decided to go get Rebecca ready for bed. After a quick wash and diaper change, I went into Rebecca's closet and found tucked in the back a new pair of pajamas. They were white with purple flowers. PERFECT! As soon as I had buttoned the last button, we heard John scream from downstairs, "TOUCHDOWN LSU!" After that, LSU dominated the game. The Kittens had turned back into Tigers, and the Buckeyes were just buckeyes. LSU won the BCS (The only team to win two BCS titles.), and it is all because of Rebecca's pjs. Well, maybe Flynn, Dorsey, Doucet, Hester, Miles, and the rest of the team have a little to do with it.

It's just too bad that Rebecca will outgrow the pajamas before next season.

Turning Circles and Screaming

Thursday, January 3, 2008

It has been very nice being able to put Rebecca down on the floor to play, so I can get things done. When I go back to pick her up, she is always in the place where I left her. That is about to change. She can now turn in circles, and is about to roll over any day now. She can already roll from her front to her back, but she has not quite mastered rolling from her back to her front. It won't be long.

She has also become quite a squealer. She has always been a talker, but now her talking has turned into screams...very loud screams at times. The best is when it is 4 in the morning, and I am changing her diaper. I guess she just wants her daddy to wake up, too.

Here are some pictures of our past week:
