Birthday Weekend

Monday, September 14, 2009

While I was sad that the weekend and it's festivities were over, I was glad to get back to a bit of normalcy (whatever that is). I had a fantatic weekend celebrating Rebecca's 2nd birthday, and I am pretty sure that Rebecca had a great weekend, too.

It started off Friday morning with blueberry muffins and a practice round of blowing out the candles. I wanted to be sure she would be able to preform in front of a crowd at her party.
We also spent sometime Friday morning cooking in her new kitchen. She has made some great meals all weekend long. Some of my favorites have been roasted chicken, stewed tomatoes, and a very, very, very hard boiled egg.
We also went to one of Rebecca's favorite places, Monkey Joe's. Luckily, Nannie went with us and jumped with Rebecca. They had a blast!
Friday afternoon was spent waited on all of Rebecca's peeps to come in town. Mimi and Papa came to visit. Pop Pop was bringing Carrie to Atlanta, and Laura and Greg arrived to help celebrate the big 2.

Saturday morning we had a birthday party at another one of Rebecca's favorite places, the park. The weather turned out to be perfect. Lots of Rebecca's friends came to the party, but of course with them being 2, give or take a few months, there are no pictures of them together. They were all over the place.

My favorite part of the whole day was watching Rebecca watch everyone sing Happy Birthday to her. She just stared at them all and waited patiently for them to finish.

Then she blew the candles out on the first try. I am glad we practiced.
Eating cake and ice cream with Laura.

After the party we took a very tired Rebecca home to nap, but she never fell asleep. She was too excited about the party (too hyped up on cake and ice cream) and too excited about a house full of cousins. Denise, Rob, and Mae were able to make it to the party. So after Rebecca's non-nap she ran around with Carrie and Mae while the men watched them. The big girls went wedding dress shopping with Laura. She found the most beautiful dress, but you will have to wait until June to see pictures.

I dressed Rebecca up in her Tennessee finest, hoping it would help them pull off a win (they need all the help they can get), but Rebecca looking cute as ever did not help them win. While John and Rob might of not had a great afternoon, the girls had a blast playing with Rebecca's new toys,
and taking a bath together.
The beautiful 2 year old Rebecca.

We finished up the birthday weekend with Rebecca's 2 year old check-up with Dr. Knox. His nurse was very impressed how well Rebecca handled everything. She stood very still while standing on the big scale for the first time (27 lbs.) and stood very tall for her height measurement (33 1/2 in.). She did not flinch at all when her finger was pricked, and she did a great job for her eye exam. She did cry for about 10 seconds when she got two shots, but she was her happy self soon afterwards. Dr. Knox could not believe how well she could talk and he was very impressed with her vocabulary. He asked if she could say between 30-50 words. He soon realized that she can and does say about anything. He said that she was pretty close to perfect. DUH! I could have told him that.

It looks like Rebecca had a great birthday. Sad we could not share it with her.
